If you’ve ever found a vine with a heart shaped leaf in your garden, there’s a good chance it’s “Sand Vine, Blue Vine, or Blue-Sand Vine.” Known by many names it seems, it’s part of the milkweed family with the scientific name, Cynanchum laeve.
While I’ve pulled out my share of this vining growth wonder, I may reconsider as I saw a monarch lay an egg on this type of milkweed. That was a first for me and so I took it inside and before you knew it I had a monarch larva.
This vine is not what I consider to be a well-behaved. It grows where it wants and that’s usually over some nice looking flower. I may still pull some out, but I will leave some in just in case a passing monarch feels like laying eggs.
